Find Your Flow
Flow is the state of mind where you are fully focused and present in the moment. Learn how to harness it, individually and collectively.
Individual Flow
To unlock individual flow, we'll walk through the pillars of flow together to discover how you can consistently find a state of flow.

-
Flow blockers: Anything that distracts us with cheap dopamine, i.e. phones
-
Flow proneness: Our tendency to access flow
-
Flow triggers: Conditions that instantly drive us into flow
-
Flow cycle:
-
Struggle: The discomfort causes us to want to avoid the task.
-
Release: As you persist, the brain increases dopamine, enhancing focus and enabling you to push past the struggle stage.
-
Flow: The pre-frontal cortex deactivates, allowing instant and rapid decision-making to occur.
-
Recovery - Recovering for the next flow cycle.

Collective Flow
To find flow at work, we'll explore Lean principles and Flow Engineering practices and how to apply them in your context.

1. Identify value - First, we need to define the value you provide; what customers are willing to pay for. We can then define what is waste; what the customer isn't willing to pay for.

2. Map the value stream - Together we will visualise the flow of work from start to finish, identifying the steps that add value and those that don't.

3. Create flow - We will use the value stream and available metrics to identify and reduce waste in the form of waiting, handoffs, bottlenecks, and too much work in progress.

4. Establish pull - This step shifts ownership and autonomy to the team, enabling them to pull new work when they are ready for it, not when its pushed upon them.

5. Continuous improvement - Once flow and ownership are established, the team is empowered to continuously improve the activities that add value to customers, and reduce those that don't.
